Fender's Jaguar model debuted in 1962 as the fourth professional grade solid body electric guitar from Fender after the Telecaster, Stratocaster, and Jazzmaster. It was the top of the line at the time with all the improved Fender features including a 24" scale length neck, Fender first "Fender Mute" bridge mute, switchable rhythm circuit preset, bright switch (bass cut), and newly designed shielded single coil pickups. The model received neck binding in late 1965 and large block style pearl inlays in 1966.

Make and Model: Fender Jaguar

Year: 1966. Serial 170xxx, neck stamp AUG 66, potentiometer codes indicating the 36th week of 1966.

Specifications: Total weight with bridge cover = 8lbs 7oz, nut width = 1 5/8", neck depth at the first fret = .84", 12th fret = .94".

Originality: All parts are original to the guitar except the strings and the pickup height foam/bridge mute foam (originals in the case). I've found no evidence of modifications or repairs.

Condition: Excellent. The original Sunburst finish is bright and unfaded with nearly no checking. The finish on the headstock and neck shows light checking. There are a few dings on the body from when the bridge height adjustment screw fell out before I received the guitar (one on the end of the fretboard/binding, one on the edge of the body in the forearm area).

Playability: Excellent! This is a really lively and resonant example. There's no fret wear and the neck is straight. The electronics have been cleaned and work like new. I've set it up with a 1 degree neck shim from Stew Mac for 100% contact at the neck to body joint. The original shims are in the case.

Notes: This super clean Jaguar has just landed from the son of the original owner! The son was not a musician so this beauty has languished unplayed in its case for decades. It has some really cool early features like the "ES" stamp and nail holes from the factory in the body. It's also much lighter than the last 1966 Fender Jaguar I had which was 9lbs 4 oz. I'm confident you'll love this great example of a golden era 1960s Fender Jaguar!
