Gibson introduced the J-45 in the summer of 1942 as the newest version in its Jumbo line. In Gibson nomenclature, Jumbo refers to a 16" wide lower bout while the 17" lower bout is known as the Super Jumbo. The J-45 featured a Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides a 24 3/4" scale length. The model has gone through many changes but it still retained its original scalloped X bracing up until 1955. These guitars are lightly built and are really resonant as a result. Gibson's Jumbo line is responsible for getting my in to vintage guitars. Play one and you'll see why.
Here is another slope shoulder work horse that has been played but maintained and ready for another 60 years of work. "Earl" bought this guitar new and didn't intend on selling it. He personalized it with stickers that left ghosts on the finish and at one point in time a slightly larger pickguard. The stickers were two eagles, "GOD IS LOVE" and of course, "EARL." Repairs include re-glued bridge, a couple of crack repairs on the back and one on the top, refinished back of the neck, replaced nut and new tuner buttons. This guitar is solid as a rock and ready to be back on stage.
