1971 Gibson SG Standard One-Off Custom Color Blue
Couldn't load pickup availability
Check out this amazing custom ordered Gibson from 1971: a Gibson SG Standard Stereo in original blue finish! We've not seen another Gibson in a non-metallic blue/green color like this except for the Bahama Blue guitars they made c.1980. This one is much earlier, but certainly its original finish confirmed by the custom shaped control cavity and pickup cavities underneath the pickguard.
As I was buying in this 1971 Gibson SG Standard from the mid west, I thought that it was a very late and ambered example of the classic 1960s Pelham Blue custom color from Gibson. But when it arrived, I noticed that the color wasn't metallic like Pelham. It was a flat deep blue color with a yellowed clear coat on top that gave it this beautiful turquoise color. The closest match we could find was the Bahama Blue color Gibson used almost a decade later, but we can't be sure that this is also Bahama. We welcome your guess and expertise.
Measurements: 7.5 lbs / 3.4 kg total weight. The neck measures 1.60"/ 40.6mm wide at the nut, 0.81" deep at the 1st fret, and 0.97" deep at the 12th fret. The neck pickup reads 7.54k ohms and the bridge pickup reads 6.89k ohms.
Originality: This guitar has an excellent factory style refret inside the binding, one coil of the neck pickup rewound, aftermarket Grover tuners installed long ago, and an extra strap button hole.
Playability: Killer! The neck is straight, the action is low, and the electronics function as intended. The re-fret was expertly done and feels fantastic while playing.
Condition: Very good. The clear coat of the finish has ambered significantly which gives it a nice turquoise hue. There is evidence of a set list which was taped to the back of the body. The neck has not been broken or repaired.
Included: The original case is included. The original stereo cable is included however one side of the cable doesn't work. A brand new stereo cable will be included.
Fine Print: All guitars ship via FedEx Priority Overnight for domestic sales or FedEx Priority International. I offer a 48 hour approval period beginning on delivery for all sales during which you are welcome to opt for a return as long as the guitar is still in as-sent condition. I do not charge a restocking fee, but any non-refunded payment processing fees, outbound shipping, and return shipping costs are subtracted from the refund in the case of a return.
