Gibson Les Paul Model 1954 Goldtop

Gibson Les Paul Model 1954 Goldtop

$1.00

This 1954 Gibson Les Paul goldtop is one of the best playing 50s Les Pauls I've ever been privileged to play. It's original apart from a refret, new bone nut, replaced bridge post bushings for perfect geometry, short section of binding on the neck repaired (3"), and a reproduction jack plate. The original gold finish shows light wear which is catching the light in my photos but appears much more subtle in person. I purchased it from the daughter of its previous owner after he passed recently.

Measurements: 8.4 lbs / 3.8 kg total weight. The neck measures 1.71" wide at the nut, 0.91" deep at the first fret, and 1.03" deep at the 12th fret. The neck pickup reads 7.45k ohms and the bridge reads 7.57k ohms.

Originality: Refret over the binding, new bone nut, replaced bridge post bushings, 3" binding repair on the bass side of the neck near the nut (pictured), and a reproduction output jack plate. The ground solder joints in the control cavity have all been reflowed, but the leads from the pickups and capacitor joints are original. I've seen ground solder reflowed on other guitars in an erroneous attempt to find the source of a hum which may explain this. I'm confident that the pickups, pots, and capacitors are original to the guitar.

Playability: Spectacular! While my personal preference is to use original size fret wire for a refret, I'll admit that this one with slightly wider than factory plays like a dream. The neck is straight, truss rod adjusts properly in either direction, and the pots and jack operate as intended.

Included: The original brown Lifton case, yellow Les Paul switch tag, and old leather strap are included.

Fine Print: All guitars ship via FedEx Priority Overnight for domestic sales or FedEx Priority International. I offer a 48 hour approval period on all sales during which you are welcome to opt for a return. I do not charge a restocking fee, but any non-refunded payment processing fees, outbound shipping, and return shipping costs are subtracted from refunds in the case of a return.
