1964 Epiphone FT-79 Texan
1964 Epiphone Texan 236645-059Some of my favorite vintage Gibson guitars to ever come through the shop actually bear the name "Epiphone." The Epiphone company sold to Gibson in 1957 after almost a decade of management ineffectiveness and a failure to keep up with changing market forces (no solid body guitar?). Gibson's purchase of the Epiphone brand name came with a stockpile of half finished guitars and unused parts. In 1958, the Epiphone Texan was born out of this pile when Gibson mated a round shoulder jumbo body to a long scale Epiphone neck. This 1964 Epiphone FT-79 Texan was one of the finer collectible acoustic guitar packages to come through the shop. It still had the original hang tag and hard case! The 1960s Gibson acoustic guitars don't get a lot of press for their acoustic tone but I've always been impressed at how good they sound. The tops are lightly braced and resonate freely. I highly recommend that you check one of these guitars out! Are you looking for a buyer for your vintage Gibson made Epiphone Texan? Give me a call. I'd like to check it out. 1964 Epiphone Texan 236645-006
