"... guttural, mellow, raucous, tender, raw.... You can create a sensational new sound effect never before played on the guitar with Maestro Fuzz-Tone.... The Fuzz Effect." -- a 1962 ad for the Fuzz-Tone. Gibson developed a fuzz effect pedal after a country musician and an engineer brought them a prototype utilizing transistors to clip the sine wave into more of a square shape. The Fuzz-Tone was only mildly successful until Keith Richards popularized the sound with the riff in "Satisfaction" with the Rolling Stones in 1965. This Maestro Fuzz-Tone FZ1A pedal has just come out of retirement and remains in excellent condition with all its original parts except the battery.
