“FENDER VIBROVERB AMP: the new Vibroverb amplifier incorporates both Reverberation and Vibrato and surpasses other amps in tone and power within and above its price range. The Vibroverb is equipped with a double foot switch for reverb and vibrato and features tilt-back legs for greater sound distribution.” — 1964 Fender Electric Instruments catalog
Make and Model: Fender Vibroverb Amp
Year: 1964. Tube chart stamp: NB (February 1964), speaker code: 137 342 (CTS, 1963, 42nd week), Output transformer: 606340 (Schumacher, 1963, 40th week), Power transformer: 606327 (Schumacher, 1963, 27th week), Choke: -606-3-40 (Schumacher, 1963, 40th week), Reverb driver: 606402 (Schumacher, 1964, 2nd week), Chassis assembly stamp: 0764 (7th week of ’64)
Specifications: ~40 watts output, two matched 6L6 power tubes, two 12AX7 preamp tubes, 12Ax7 driven tremolo and reverb. 15″ CTS speaker.
Originality: This one came in with all original parts except for a few tubes and a replaced plug on the original cord. It’s now been professionally serviced with a new grounded power cord, replaced filter capacitors, one power section capacitor, one replaced reverb return wire, one replaced button on the foot switch, replaced optocoupler, replaced resistor on the bias potentiometer. All other parts original to the amp.
Condition: Excellent! The amp has been fully cleaned but the Tolex on the top shows evidence of being stored in a dusty environment. I’ve opted not to use chemicals to clean the Tolex since I think it makes it easier to distinguish between a reissue and the real thing.
Playability: Excellent! This is an excellent sounding example that needs nothing.I was shocked to find that the original CTS 15″ has no previous tears or rips and no weird buzzing. It operates exactly as it should and sounds divine. All potentiometers, switches, and jacks have been cleaned and adjusted. They operate as intended without scratchiness or noise.
Notes: This is the stuff vintage gear dreams are made of. This original 1964 Fender Vibroverb was found by a mail carrier at a garage sale in rural Nevada. It had no description and didn’t appear to work but the mail carrier recognized the Fender brand name as a quality amplifier. He was very pleased to find that it was indeed a good deal after a quick google search! He was able to nearly 10x his investment and I was excited to get an unmolested original Vibroverb.
I carefully disassembled, inspected, and cleaned the Vibroverb after receiving it in the mail. I was shocked to find that had only a few small issues in the way of normal operation. My amp technician was able to resolve everything in an hour or so. The wave form looks excellent through an oscilloscope after a proper bias adjustment. All the important original parts are in excellent working condition including the all transformers, 15″ CTS speaker with original cone, and all the coupling capacitors on the board. I’m confident you’ll love the tone from this clean, uncirculated original 1964 Fender Vibroverb!
