1961 Gibson Les Paul Standard
This vintage 1961 Gibson Les Paul Standard has recently come from the family of the original owner after his passing last year. It has just returned from the luthier after having its original non-functioning truss rod replaced and a refret performed. It's now in excellent playing condition with original and undisturbed Patent Applied For humbucking pickups.
Year: 1961. Serial 40xxx. Check out my blog post on how to date a vintage Gibson Les Paul.
Specifications: 7lbs 2oz, .80" neck depth at the first fret, .90" depth at the 12th fret.
Originality: All parts original except the nut, frets, era correct tuners with replacement buttons, and truss rod.
Repairs: Replaced truss rod and refret with jumbo frets. The original truss rod wasn't functioning and had the nut end of the rod broken off. A small amount of wood was removed in the truss rod adjustment cavity by the previous owner to gain access to the threads. Jason Burns removed the fretboard, replaced the old rod with a proper new rod, and spliced in wood in the truss rod cavity back to original shape.
Playability: Excellent! It's now in fine playing condition with proper functioning truss rod, straight neck, and new frets. The original side pull vibrato does not stay in tune well when used as a vibrato, but is rock solid when the arm is folded out of the way and not in use.
