1937 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe
“Roy Smeck Hawaiian Guitars — There are many players who need exceptional guitars on which to display their talents — guitars that will respond to their technique, no matter how fast or how soft, with a clear ringing tone…. Fine Spruce top, Mahogany rim, back, and neck; Rosewood fingerboard…. Rich chocolate brown finish with golden sunburst shading on the top…” — 1937 Gibson catalog
Make and Model: Gibson Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe
Year of Manufacture: ~1937, FON illegible
Condition: Excellent. This is one of the nicest examples we’ve ever seen. There is finish checking present throughout. There is small gash on the bass side rim near the neck. There’s another blemish on the bass side of the top next to the rim.
Originality: One replaced tuner screw. That’s it. Even the original bridge pins, nut, and saddle are all present and unmodified. All braces appear to be tightly adhered to to the top and have never been reglued.
Notes: This nearly unbelievably clean 1937 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe has survived the test of time with no signs of abuse. It is an excellent candidate for conversion to Spanish style playing. I’m confident you will be thrilled with the result.
