1976 Fender Starcaster Sunburst

This clean vintage Fender Starcaster electric guitar came through the shop recently. It was a great sounding instrument and a fine example of a vintage Fender electric guitar. Vintage 1976 Fender Starcaster guitar Natural

Fender's Starcaster model debuted in 1976 with a vast departure from typical Fender designs: a semi-hollow body with solid center block, Seth Lover designed Wide Range humbucking pickups, and highly figured Maple laminate. Long time Fender R&D department employee Gene Fields headed up the design team for this guitar and appears to have mated the best parts of traditional Fender guitars (offset waist body style, bolt on neck, vibey style) with the classy Gibson parts like figured woods, semi-hollow construction, and humbucking pickups. The model was very expensive in the 1970s and didn't reach the sales goals Fender was looking for. It dropped from the catalog around 1980 but has enjoyed renewed interest in the past 15 years. 

Make and Model: Fender Starcaster Sunburst

Year: 1976, serial 76xxxxx

Specifications: Thinline archtop electric with solid center block, hollow wings with thin F holes, two Seth Lover designed Wide Range Humbucking pickups. Neck depth at the first fret = .84", depth at the 12th fret = .93", nut width = 1 5/8", total weight 8lbs 6oz. 

Originality: All parts original except the strings and a hand crafted from bone nut.

Condition: Excellent! The finish is really clean and doesn't show wear from decades of playing or touring.

Playability: Excellent! The neck and frets are perfect. It plays like a new guitar. 

Notes: This clean Starcaster has just come in from the caretaker of the original owner! The musical equipment was willed to the caretaker since the original owner didn't have surviving family. She received this Starcaster, a '76 Roland RE-150 Space Echo, and a '76 Fender Phaser pedal. The guitar had survived in amazing condition but had a replaced nut that wasn't cut just right. I asked my luthier to make a new bone nut and lacquer it in like an original nut. 

It's now in excellent playing condition and lives up to the hype around this rare model. I believe the Starcaster is one of those under the radar guitars that has a high potential of outperforming traditionally collectable Fender guitars as an investment. But who cares about that! It's a fantastic playing instrument that has a vibe and allure all its own. I'm confident you'll love this clean uncirculated '76 Fender Starcaster with original hang tag, Fender strap, case key, three Allen wrenches, and original hardshell case.
