1973 Gibson ES-335 TD Cherry
Debuting in 1958 with the ES-335, Gibson's Thinline Electric Spanish line was a smash hit that's been in continuous production ever since. The revolutionary design featured a classic Gibson archtop shape with F style holes but a much thinner depth with a solid center block down the center of the guitar. The resulting instrument was resistant to excessive feedback at high stage volumes but retained the warmth and resonance of prior Gibson electric guitars. The ES-335 model underwent changes throughout the 1960s but retained the Mahogany neck until transitioning to Maple in 1975.
Make and Model: Gibson ES-335TD Cherry finish
Year: 1973. Serial 130xxx, potentiometer code 137 73xx (137 = CTS, 73 = 1973, XX (these digits covered by solder, would usually indicate week of the year)
Specifications: Thinline, semi-hollow archtop, shorter Maple center block, two patent sticker humbucking pickups, Mahogany neck with volute. Nut width = 1 9/16", .78" neck depth at first fret, 1.02" depth at 12th fret. 7lbs 7oz.
Originality: All parts original except the strings! Original hang tag included.
Condition: Excellent! No breaks or repairs. Light scratches on the finish but no visible checking. The case exterior is a little dusty/worn and one handle hinge has been crudely repaired.
Playability: Excellent! It’s a dream to play. The neck is straight and the frets are full height without excessive player wear. The neck set is good and the truss rod is fully adjustable.
Notes: This Kalamazoo made Gibson ES-335 has been neglected for far too long! It shows very little evidence of prior wear or abuse and has never been broken or repaired. It's a light and resonant example with cool early 70s features including the Mahogany neck, patent sticker pickups (likely T top), and lighter Cherry finish. I'm confident you'll love this clean 1973 Gibson ES-335 with original hang tag and case!
