1961 Gibson Les Paul Standard (SG)

1961 Gibson Les Paul Standard (SG)

This 1961 Gibson Les Paul Standard with updated SG body style came in recently from the son of its original owner! He inherited it from his father 30 years ago, but couldn't bring himself to sell it until now. It was modified early on with a trapeze style fixed tailpiece, so I sourced a correct original side pull vibrato for it. All else is original to the guitar and it's a spectacular playing example!

Make and Model: Gibson Les Paul Standard (SG Body Style)

Year: 1961. Serial number "25405".

Measurements: 7.1 lbs / 3.2 kg overall weight. The neck width measures 1.69" or 42.8 mm (typical 1 11/16" width). The profile of the neck measures 0.79" deep at the first fret and 0.88" deep at the 12th fret. The neck pickup reads 7.2k ohms and the bridge pickup reads 7.8k ohms.

Originality: All finish, solder, and parts are original to this guitar except for the side pull vibrato (vintage correct part, not a reproduction) and a period correct volume potentiometer (same brand and date code within 6 months of others). The was a bump on the side of the neck in the binding at the third fret which was reglued and stabilized.

Condition: Very nice! There is light fading of the Cherry Red finish on the face of the body, moderate finish checking throughout, and general wear commensurate with its vintage. There are three small holes filled next to the end pin from the previous trapeze tailpiece.

Playability: Killer! It's a spectacular playing example with straight neck, proper working electronics, and plenty of fret life left. Remember that the side pull vibrato is a side pull, not a push. It stays in tune nicely when used as intended.

Included: The original hard shell case in nice condition is included.
