Vintage Fender Jaguar Guitars
The Fender Jaguar was introduced in 1962 as the more student friendly addition of the offset line starting with the Jazzmaster. The Jaguar features a shorter scale neck at 24" and its own version of Fender's single coil pickups that make it distinctive among the sea of new guitars that came out in the 1960s. The electronics followed a similar setup to the Jazzmaster in that it had two different circuits on one guitar. The lower circuit had pickup on/off switches and a treble cut while the upper circuit had an on/switch just for the neck pickup and volume and tone controls. This allowed the player to have two different tones at the flick of a switch. While that feature never really caught on, the Jaguar itself became a huge influence in Surf music and went on to become a very desirable vintage piece.
The matching headstock was used for custom color Fenders throughout the 1960s. This feature really sets the custom color guitars apart from the standard sunburst finish. Olympic White is considered a common color in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide. The rare colors can often be almost double the value of a common custom color. Colors like Shoreline Gold and Inca Silver are so rare they will draw the attention of almost all big collectors. It's difficult to set a pricing precedent for those colors because of how few are available for sale in the open market.
