The Gibson ES-335 debuted in 1958 with a revolutionary new design: a double cutaway, thin solid body with hollow wings electric guitar. The thin body of this guitar was constructed of a laminated Maple arched top and back but had a solid center Maple block running down the center of the body. The resulting guitar had a warm tonal response but limited the problem of feedback at high stage volumes that many artists had at the time. The new ES-335 was fitted with Gibson’s Humbucking pickups and became a huge commercial success. Available finishes in 1968 included Sunburst, Cherry, and Sparkling Burgundy.

This 1968 Gibson ES-335td in special Sparkling Burgundy finish has survived in nice condition and is ready to play. All parts appear to be original to the guitar except for replaced tuners and bushings with Kluson reproductions. There is a small "2" above the serial number indicating it was a second. The finish is totally original with light fading and no signs of touch up or repairs. The neck and frets are in great shape and ready to play. There are signs of previous stickers on the bass side of the body next to the pickup and on the front of the headstock. The original patent number pickups exhibit full output and sound great. We're confident you'll love the tone and playability of this 1968 Gibson ES-335td in rare Sparkling Burgundy finish.
