This clean vintage 1962 Fender Jazzmaster guitar in Sunburst finish came through the shop a few years ago. It was a phenomenal sounding instrument and a fine example of a vintage Fender guitar. Leo Fender debuted the new Jazzmaster model in the summer 1958 catalog with a radical new shape: the offset contour waist. Many Jazz players at the time preferred playing the guitar sitting down and Leo wanted the body to fit comfortably over the player's knee and fit the rib cage comfortably. The Jazzmaster was more than just a new shape, it was a new guitar from the ground up with proprietary pickup design, Forrest White designed preset rhythm switching system, and a smooth action floating tremolo and bridge. Traditional Jazz players at the time found that the design didn't quite work for their purposes but the burgeoning Surf music scene fell headfirst into offset guitars and Reverb units. The offset waist has continued to be the vibe of choice for the counter culture throughout the decades.

This clean 1962 Fender Jazzmaster with slab Rosewood fretboard has survived in excellent condition and is ready for the stage, studio, or collection. It appears to be completely original inside and out except for a professionally installed bone nut (original is in the case). All other parts are original to the guitar including the finish, frets, pickups, electronics, and the oft missing bridge cover. The neck is straight with a properly function truss rod. The frets show very little wear and are ready for a lifetime of playing. We've just installed a fresh set of hand wound round core strings (11-50) from the Gabriel Tenorio String company because the low break angle over the bridge on offset guitars requires a different formulation of string tension for optimum playability.
