1960 Fender Jazzmaster
“FENDER JAZZMASTER: There is no more convincing proof of the fine playing qualities of the Fender Jazzmaster than its rapid acceptance by guitarists throughout the world during the past few years. This remarkable guitar incorporates all the well known Fender developments including the “off-set” body design, smooth tremolo action plus separate rhythm and lead tone circuits… Every convenience is provided including the tremolo lock, adjustable master bridge channel with individually adjustable two way bridges, and completely adjustable high fidelity pickups. The Jazzmaster represents one of the finest additions to the Fender line and far surpasses other instruments in its price class.” — Fender catalog, 1960
Make and Model: Fender Jazzmaster
Year: 1960, “12/60” pencilled neck date, serial 57xxx
Specifications: 25 1/2 scale length, 7 lbs 14 oz, .78″ neck depth at the first fret, .95″ neck depth at the 12th fret, nut width actual = 1 41/64″ (1 5/8″), 8.02k ohm neck pickup, 7.45k ohm bridge pickup, slab Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with “clay” dot fret markers.
Originality: All parts appear to be original except the strings. I added foam underneath the pickups to gain some height adjustment but left the original foam in place.
Condition: No breaks, repairs, or changed parts. There is plenty of finish wear giving it that vintage look. It’s got all the feel and tone of a well loved vintage guitar but plays like a professional instrument should. There is a small chip out of the nut on the bass side but it doesn’t affect the nut slot.
Playability: Very good. I’ve just completed a full set up and inspection. This one plays nicely with a working truss rod (.002″ relief) and strong pickups. There is some fret wear but I found it comfortable to play and not currently in need of a refret. All electronics function properly after cleaning and lubrication.
Notes: Just in from the family of the original owner! This vibey 1960 Fender Jazzmaster has been played but not abused. I was told the original owner passed in the early 1990s and the guitar hasn’t been played since then. It was dirty and far out of adjustment when I got it but everything cleaned up nicely. I was shocked to see that it still had its original hang tag with serial number, old string packet, original case, and killer tooled leather strap. I’m confident you’ll love this uncirculated, professionally playable with original parts 1960 Fender Jazzmaster with original Sunburst finish!
