1958 Gibson Les Paul Special
This 1958 Gibson Les Paul Special has just come in from the son of its original owner! It's a killer playing example of a very late single cutaway Les Paul Special.
Do you have one you're considering selling? Get in touch:
Make and Model: Gibson Les Paul Special
Year: 1958. Serial number 8 5462. It's 26 numbers away from the PJ Burst that I sourced from South Africa in 2021. Both of them have the bright yellow ground wire covers in the control cavity.
Measurements: 7.4 lbs / 3.35 kg overall weight. The neck profile measures 0.90" deep at the 1st fret and 1.00" deep at the 12th fret. The nut measures exactly 1.70" / 43.1 mm (1 11/16") wide. The neck pickup reads 7.78k ohms and the bridge pickup reads 7.56k ohms.
Originality: All parts are original to the guitar except the jack plate (repro) and one volume and one tone knob (both original knobs from 1958, not repro).
Playability: Excellent! It's a fine playing example with straight neck. There is some fret wear but not as much as the overall wear on the body might suggest. I would not refret this guitar at the moment if it were mine forever. The electronics are clean and operate as intended.
Condition: Nicks, dings, scratches, finish checking, and vibe abound on this guitar. It has suffered no breaks or repairs of any kind. There are a few extra jack plate screw holes from an oversized plate previously installed.
Included: Its original chipboard case is nearly worn out but is included in the sale.
