1966 Gibson ES-335 Heather Poly

Regular price $64,995.00

This 1966 Gibson ES-335 in factory original Heather Poly may be the only documented example of any ES guitar factory finished in this rare custom color. Gibson used the term “Poly” as shorthand for “Polychromatic,” its name for a metallic, light-reactive color effect rather than a reference to polyurethane. The 1966 catalog and price list offer "Gibson Custom Finishes" for all Firebird models, but the ES-335 listings mention only Sunburst and Cherry. Shipped from Gibson on April 11, 1966, this guitar remains 100% original throughout and was only recently discovered hidden away in a storage unit.

Measurements: 8.2lbs (3.70 kg) total weight. The neck measures 1.63" (1 5/8", 41.3mm) wide at the nut, 0.82" deep at the first fret, and 1.00" deep at the 12th fret (medium taper profile). The neck pickup reads 7.49k ohms and the bridge pickup reads 7.70k ohms.

Dates: The shipment ledger indicates that this guitar shipped on April 11, 1966.

Originality: All parts, finish, and solder are original to this guitar.

Playability: Excellent. The neck is straight, frets have little wear, and the electronics operate as intended.

Condition: Good! The clear coat shows typical amber hue and deep finish checking. The back of the body once had a large felt piece which has been removed. There's some evidence left on the top of the clear coat, but I've declined to polish it out.

Included: The original hardshell case is included.

Fine Print: All guitars ship via FedEx Priority Overnight for domestic sales or FedEx Priority International. I offer a 48 hour approval period beginning on delivery for all sales during which you are welcome to opt for a return as long as the guitar is still in as-sent condition. I do not charge a restocking fee, but any non-refunded payment processing fees, outbound shipping, and return shipping costs are subtracted from the refund in the case of a return.
