1960 Gibson SG TV (Les Paul Junior TV Yellow)

Regular price $19,995.00

Commonly referred to as a "TV Yellow Les Paul Junior", Gibson's own catalog and price list refer to the model name of this guitar as "SG TV". Unlike the other three Les Pauls at the time, Gibson dropped the Les Paul signature from catalog, price list, and headstock of the Special and the TV in November of 1959. The Standard, Custom, and Junior would retain the signature until 1963.

This killer 1960 SG TV has been played and loved, but remains in nice condition after so many decades. In a first for this collector, this guitar appears to have never received a serial number. The finish is undoubtedly original and there's no evidence of a smudge or anything in the serial number area, leading me to think that it could be a simple oversight or possibly an employee guitar that may not have required one. In any case, I observed an early 1960 potentiometer code and a fat neck profile, both evidence that this was likely manufactured in early 1960. The frets have wear and there's a poorly plugged hole from an eye hook for an old school strap on the back of the headstock, but otherwise is a great example of one of my favorite models from the pinnacle era of production.

Measurements: 7.4 lbs / 3.35kg total weight. The neck measures 1.71"/ 43mm wide at the nut, 0.86" deep at the 1st fret, and 1.01" deep at the 12th fret. The bridge pickup reads 7.87k ohms.

Originality: All parts, finish, and solder appear to be original except for some non-professional touch up around a screw hole on the back of the neck.

Playability: Good. The frets have wear but plenty of meat if you like original small frets. The neck is straight and the electronics function as intended.

Condition: Good. Typical finish checking, nicks, dings, and scratches abound giving in classic vintage guitar character. I did not observe any breaks or repairs.

Included: A 1980s era "chainsaw" case is included.

Fine Print: All guitars ship via FedEx Priority Overnight for domestic sales or FedEx Priority International. I offer a 48 hour approval period beginning on delivery for all sales during which you are welcome to opt for a return as long as the guitar is still in as-sent condition. I do not charge a restocking fee, but any non-refunded payment processing fees, outbound shipping, and return shipping costs are subtracted from the refund in the case of a return.
