1965 Fender Stratocaster Sonic Blue with Clear Overspray

Regular price $29,995.00

I purchased this 1965 Fender Stratocaster in factory original Sonic Blue custom color finish from its sole owner since 1970. Sometime in the 1970s, he noticed that the clear coat was wearing away and decided to have a polyurethane overspray applied in order to stabilize it. While I wouldn't recommend it today, it did preserve the finish, but more importantly, made an otherwise unobtanium custom color Stratocaster priced a lot closer to a Sunburst example.

Measurements: 8.3lbs (3.75 kg) total weight. The neck measures 1.64" (1 5/8") wide at the nut, 0.88" deep at the first fret, and 0.88" deep at the 12th fret (fat with no taper). The neck pickup reads 5.97k ohms, the middle pickup reads 6.20k ohms, and the bridge pickup reads 5.61k ohms.

Dates: The neck heel stamp reads "2NOV65B" where 2 = Stratocaster model, NOV = November, 65 = 1965, and B = standard neck width 1 5/8". The potentiometer codes read "137 6549" where 137 = CTS (manufacturer code), 65 = 1965, and 49 = 49th week.

Originality: All parts and finish are original to this guitar except for polyurethane overspray over the entire guitar (including neck and fretboard) and a freshly rewound neck pickup to match the original spec from Tom Brantley Rewinds.

Playability: Excellent! The neck is straight, frets are in good condition, and the electronics operate as intended.

Included: The original case is included.

Fine Print: All guitars ship via FedEx Priority Overnight for domestic sales or FedEx Priority International. I offer a 48 hour approval period beginning on delivery for all sales during which you are welcome to opt for a return as long as the guitar is still in as-sent condition. I do not charge a restocking fee, but any non-refunded payment processing fees, outbound shipping, and return shipping costs are subtracted from the refund in the case of a return.
