This 1974 Fender Mustang in original Competition Red finish with white stripes came through the shop a few years ago. I'm always a vintage Fender guitar buyer but I especially love the Fender Mustangs. Please contact me to sell a vintage Fender guitar.
The Fender Mustang debuted in 1964 as a quality electric guitar at an affordable price. Leo's team packed it with cool features like the offset body design, tremolo tailpiece and two pickups with phase switchable wiring. The guys at Fender introduced a new set of colors in 1969 they called the Competition series that came in Red, Burgundy and Orange. Many players consider the Competition color era Mustang as the pinnacle of the run because of the introduction of the contour body shape as well as of course, those killer racing stripes.
This 1974 Fender Competition Mustang in Red has survived in excellent original condition and is ready to go back to work. All electronics are original to the guitar and in excellent working condition. The original Mustang wiring allows for single pickup, dual pickup in phase, and dual pickup out of phase selection that can go from driving blues tone to spanky funk sounds. The neck is straight and the original frets have almost no wear and a full life ahead of them. The original case is also in good condition but does show some wear from the years. The finish is in excellent condition with almost no fading but does exhibit moderate checking. We're confident you'll love playing this one as much as we did (edit: sold!).
