The Epiphone FT-79 Texan was introduced in 1958, just after the Gibson buyout in October of 1957. Gibson used leftover NY Epiphone long scale necks and mated them to a J-45 body. The resulting guitar was both attractive and a fine instrument that took advantage of both brand's strengths. The earliest Texans had a few interesting features including solid lining (an Epiphone tradition) as well as an odd factory order number on the neck block preceded by a confusing "Y" stamp (which would have indicated 1953 in Gibson FON records).
This Epiphone FT-79N Texan from the first year of production has survived in very nice original condition and is ready for the studio or collection. Professionally completed repairs include a few braces reglued, 2 back cracks glued, as well as a bridge reglue. The original finish exhibits attractive checking and signs of wear throughout. The frets show wear in the first position but not enough to affect a player's comfort. It's just received a professional setup and plays and sounds lovely (edit: sold!)
