This vintage 1950 Gibson SJ acoustic guitar, or Southerner Jumbo, came through the shop a few years ago. I'm always a vintage Gibson guitar buyer but I especially love the 1950s Gibson guitars. Please contact me here to sell a vintage Gibson SJ guitar.
From the 1950 Gibson catalog, "SOUTHERNER JUMBO FLAT TOP GUITAR: This model has been built for the player desiring a deep, brilliant tone guitar at a moderate price." Gibson's SJ model was essentially a J-45 with the choicest tone woods, attractive split parallelogram fretboard inlays, and multi ply top and back binding.
This 1950 Gibson Southerner Jumbo has been played and maintained throughout its tenure and is ready for a new life making music. The first five frets had been improperly refretted so we removed those and refretted the neck professionally. We also reglued the pickguard and a few braces. We installed a new bone nut and saddle and cleaned up a previously glued center seam separation. There's a strap button installed on the side of the neck heel and a tight top crack extending from the bridge. Other parts appear to be original to the guitar except for replaced tuners. Now it's in excellent playing condition with lovely acoustic tone and good intonation. The professional refret makes the neck a joy to play. We're confident you love the tone and aesthetic of this 1950 Gibson Southerner Jumbo Flat Top Guitar (edit: sold!)
