FENDER JAZZ BASS: The Jazz Bass represents the standard by which others will be compared. The two pickups have two pole pieces for each string giving excellent and true string response. Individual volume controls for each pickup, and one tone control permit mixing for wide bass tone selection… the body is comfort contoured and shaped with the “offset” waist design, fitting the instrument to the player’s body and placing the player’s arm in a natural position over the strings… Every bassist will find the Fender Jazz Bass is truly and artists’ instrument…” — Fender catalog, 1965

Make and Model: Fender Jazz Bass

Year: 1965, “7APR65A” neck stamp, 104xxx serial

Specifications: 9lbs 8oz, 1 1/2″ nut width, .73″ neck depth at the 1st, .96″ neck depth at the 12th, 34″ scale length

Originality: All parts appear to be original except the strings. I added some foam underneath the pickups to gain height.

Condition: Excellent. There’s some significant thumb wear next to the pickguard and some buckle rash on the back of the guitar. There is fret wear but it doesn’t impede playing. The neck is straight and the truss rod is in excellent working condition. All electronics are smooth and working properly.

Playability: Excellent. The neck is straight and the original frets have a lot of life left in them.

Notes: This clean mid 1965 Fender Jazz bass has just come out of retirement since the early 1990s! It’s clean, original, and in excellent working condition. Leo described the Jazz Bass as “the Cadillac version” of the Precision Bass and this one feels like the Cadillac of basses when you hold it. The original case in in good shape except it’s missing the handle and has a slight smoky/musty smell. It hasn’t been opened much in the last 28 years so it likely needs to be aired out a bit. The guitar itself is a joy to play and is ready for a new career. I’m confident you’ll love this clean 1965 Fender Jazz Bass!
