Gibson Les Paul Custom 1958

Gibson Les Paul Custom 1958

I'm thrilled to offer this 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom to the market for the first time since it was sold new. I purchased this factory stop tail Custom from the son of its original owner in Milwaukee, WI. It's a spectacular example with no extra holes from a Bigsby and all original solder throughout. The fat '58 neck profile is exactly what I look for in a PAF guitar.

Make and Model: Gibson Les Paul Custom

Year: 1958. Serial number "8 3812" which was just on the transition line from Standards with gold tops to Sunburst.

Production total for 1958: 256 examples shipped in 1958 (some with Bigsby).

Measurements: 9.3 lbs / 4.2 kg total weight. The neck profile measures 0.91" deep at the first fret and 1.01" deep at the 12th fret. The neck pickup reads 7.13k ohms and the bridge pickup reads 7.39k.

Originality: All original finish, solder, and parts except for: two mounting screws for the pickguard, era correct nut, and one thumbwheel. Never any breaks, fractures, or repairs.

Condition: Excellent! The finish has nice checking, nicks and dings, and some surface buckle rash on the back. The gash on the top in the forearm area about 1/2" diameter.

Playability: Excellent! The neck is straight, frets are in good condition, and the electronics operate as intended.

Notes: This Les Paul Custom comes from my favorite year for Gibson solid body electrics: 1958. It's the year that so much changed in the guitars the company was making. It's the year with the perfect mixture of the elegance of the 1950s but the cut of the 1960s. The necks were still as fat as they were in the mid 1950s the PAF humbuckers were in their prime. This LP Custom is an excellent example of the pinnacle year of the model (in this author's humble opinion!).

Terms: All guitars sold with a 48 hour approval period during which a buyer may opt to return at will. Return shipping at buyer's expense. I do not charge any restocking fee, however payment processing fees which are not refunded to me will not be refunded to the buyer. Feel free to call to discuss.
