Fender Stratocaster 1958 Sunburst 31325
Fender Stratocaster 1958 Sunburst 31325
I caught a flight to Montreal, Canada to meet the son of the original owner of this 1958 Fender Stratocaster a little over a month ago. His dad was a life long hobbyist musician in the Montreal area who loved country music. The son inherited this guitar after his dad passed about a decade ago but the sentimental value it had made it difficult for the family to sell. I was thrilled to find it in excellent original condition with no repairs or modifications.
Make and Model: Fender Stratocaster
Year: 1958. Potentiometer code "304825" (304 = Stackpole, 8 = 1958, 25 = 25th week of the year). Neck heel date in pencil: 10/58. Pickup cavity date in pencil: 9/58. Serial number 31325.
Measurements: 8 lbs / 3.6 kg overall weight. Neck profile at the 1st fret = 0.84", 12th fret = 1.00". The neck pickup reads 5.25k ohms, middle = 5.30k ohms, and the bridge reads 5.47k ohms.
Originality: All parts and finish are original to this guitar except for a rewound original neck pickup. All solder is original except for the two eyelets on the bobbin (volume pot and neck solder are original). The case, strap, and bridge cover are original to this guitar.
Playability: Excellent! This is a spectacular player on original frets. The neck is straight, frets are in good condition, and the electronics operate as intended.
Notes: I instantly fell in love the feel and vibe of this guitar as soon as I picked it up despite the decade old strings and terrible set up. It needed nothing but a light cleaning, set up, and neck pickup rewind. I sent the entire guitar to Tom Brantley so he could remove the leads from the bobbin itself instead of disturbing the rest of the wiring harness to remove the pickup. I asked him to use exact matching gauge Formvar wire. The result is a fantastic sounding Strat that's clean enough to collect but not too clean to play! It's exactly what I look for.
Included: Original tweed case, leather strap, bridge cover, and tremolo arm.
Terms: All guitars are sold with a 48 hour approval period during which a buyer may opt to return at will. Return shipping at buyer's expense. I do not charge any restocking fee, however payment processing fees which are not refunded to me will not be refunded to the buyer. Feel free to call to discuss.
