1956 Danelectro U-2 Grained Ivory Leatherette with case

Vintage 1956 Danelectro U-2 Electric Guitar Ivory with tweed case

Danelectro's U-2 model debuted in 1955 with a unique approach to electric guitar construction that was both practical and economical. Nathan Daniel utilized a Masonite top and back attached to a pine frame to make a single cutaway, thin body electric guitar. His unique construction and style resulted in a lightweight, resonant, and rigid body. The neck was constructed from Poplar wood with two metal rods for strength. The U-2 model's use of two single coil pickups was not a unique feature, however, the series middle position wiring allowed for an output boost in the middle position that was unique among its peers.

Make and Model: Danelectro U-2, Grained Ivory Leatherette covering with Black edging

Year: 1956. Serial number 1106.

Specifications: 25 1/2" scale length, 1 5/8" nut width, .82" neck depth at the first fret, .91" neck depth at the 12th fret, 6lbs 10oz.

Originality: All parts original except the strings! The vintage waterslide decal stickers are applied to the back of the pickguard and easily removed if you desire. The screw hole on the control panel plate is a little tired so I have a slightly longer screw in place. The original screw is included.

Condition: Excellent! This rare Danelectro has survived in excellent condition. It has only recently come out of the house of the original owner. He upgraded to a Fender Jaguar (coming soon) in 1966 so this guitar has seen very little playing time.

Playability: Excellent! There is very little fret wear. The neck relief is sitting at .009 which is well within nice playing range.

Cleaning Process: I've cleaned and polished the frets, conditioned the Rosewood fretboard, cleaned the potentiometers, cleaned and lubricated the pickup selector switch, cleaned and tensioned the output jack, and set it up with .010s. It's an excellent playing and sounding example.

Notes: Just in! I had been looking for the right Danelectro for years. When I saw this one, I knew I had to have it. The story of this one is that a musician/guitarist friend was chatting with a neighbor and she mentioned that her husband had some old electric guitars. They were both retired and clearing out the house to downsize. One of the guitars in the collection was this clean 1956 Danelectro U-2 and one was a 1966 Fender Jaguar.

It was clear by the thorough tarnish on the frets of out of adjustment set up that neither of these guitars had been played in the last few decades. The cleaning and set up process went very smoothly and I was thrilled to get to play such a fine example. I'm confident you'll love this clean 1956 Danelectro U-2 in rare Grained Ivory Leatherette covering with original tweed hardshell case!
