We posted this graphic on our Facebook page to highlight a little known fact about the transition from "Les Paul" to "SG". Gibson Special model was the first in the line of Junior, Special, Standard, and Custom to lose the Les Paul model name and signature on the headstock. It happened in mid-1959 and coincided with the neck pickup position shift to increase neck strength. The Standard model however didn't become the SG until 1963.
