This was one of my favorite vintage guitars to ever come through the shop! The Jaguar model was introduced by Fender in 1962 as their flagship, top of the heap new electric guitar model. It was offered in a standard Sunburst finish but the price list also offered a Blond finish with Ash body or a Custom Color available from a chart. So, Blond wasn’t technically a “custom” color for this model but it was an upgraded finish.
The vast majority of Fender guitars in 1964 were made with an Alder body. The exception was only made for guitars finished in their translucent Blond finish. Blond was a standard color for Telecaster models but was an upgrade for just about every other model. We don’t have production figures for 1964 from Fender so we don’t know how many were made. Blond Jaguars are highly desirable and very few are offered for sale at any given time.
I’m always on the lookout for vintage Fender Jaguar guitars. Do you have one you would like to sell? I’m looking to buy. You can reach out to me here at my Sell Fender Guitar page and send pictures of your guitar. I’m looking forward to checking it out!
