This player ready workhorse came in to the shop via trade: a 1950 Martin 000-28. I’ve long considered Mahogany my tonewood of choice but the Brazilian Rosewood on this one was both aesthetically pleasing and resonant. Martin’s 000 size body features an auditorium shape with a lower bout width of about 15 1/2″. This guitar featured a Sitka Spruce top with that quintessential cross skiing figure that defines the species to guitar players. While this Martin had seen a lot of playing time and repairs that put it outside the normal realm of collectibility, the tone was everything that I look for. The top was light and resonant, the action was perfect, and the neck/frets in excellent playing condition.
